Spring Exhibit Reminders and Information

Hello, Arts Guild!

A BIG THANKS to Marianne Miller for her great workshop at last week's Arts Guild meeting! We have all really enjoyed the programs we have had so far this year and we are looking forward to more great Arts Guild programs to come. Since our big show is happening this month there will not be an Arts Guild Meeting in April. We’re so excited that Black Water Pottery has agreed to do the program at our May meeting, so please plan on coming to that on May, 21st at 6:30pm! We will do our best to send out reminders for that meeting as it draws nearer.

Another BIG THANK YOU for the growing support we're seeing in The Photography Club. They have had some very productive meetings and discussions this year, and we're all looking forward to seeing more great programs from our dedicated photographers.

All of our club members are working hard preparing for the spring show and we are all very excited to see all of the great work that our artists have been creating! In preparation for the exhibit, here are some things we want to make sure that you know --

  • All artists participating in the Spring Exhibit should send in their information for inclusion in the News and Farmer’s Special Edition Arts Insert, by Friday, April 6th. It is very important that we have good representation from our Guild in the insert so that the News and Farmer can continue to help us with this community effort. All they need is a picture of you and a short bio – a few sentences about you and/or your work will be great! This helps our Guild and many local merchants advertising in the insert to get the word out about this important community event, and many wonderful things that our community has to offer. Please e-mail your image and bio to David Irwin at The News and Farmer at david.irwin@thenewsandfarmer.com and if you have any questions please feel free to call David at 478.494.7723. You are also welcomed to drop off your bio and photo in person at The News and Farmer, The Jefferson County Information Center or The Fire House Gallery in downtown Louisville.

  • The Arts Guild of Jefferson County Spring Exhibit 2012 will be on display at the Fire House Gallery from Wednesday, April 11th through Saturday, April 4th. The Gallery is always open to the public Wednesday - Friday Noon - 6pm, Saturday 9am - 4pm. Arts Guild members will staff The Gallery on Sunday, April 15th from 1-4pm, so that people can visit that day as well. There will be two other downtown locations where work will be on display from April 13th - 15th. Arts Guild Members will be staffing these other two locations Friday – Sunday. One of those locations will be The Gatherings on Broad Street, the other downtown location is yet to be determined, but we will send out notification to our members as soon as we know where it will be.

  • The Opening Reception will be held in downtown Louisville at the three locations on Friday, April 13th from 7pm - 9pm. Pete Love will be playing music on the square and refreshments will be served.

  • All work must be brought to the Fire House Gallery located at 605 Mulberry Street in Louisville on either Saturday, April 7th between 4pm and 6pm, or Monday, April 9th between 1pm and 4pm. The exhibit committee will only have a short time to set and hang the show once the work is in, so it is critical that work is brought in on time. If you cannot deliver your work during this time, please make other arrangements with Candis Freeman to accept your work prior to this date & time. To contact Candis please call 4074150490 (cell); or e-mail candisfreeman@mac.com

  • Please turn in your registration form and tag information (documents attached) when you turn in your artwork at The Fire House Gallery. There are hard copies of these forms available at the Jefferson County Information Center located at 107 W. Broad Street, and the Chamber of Commerce located at 302 E. Broad Street in Louisville. You can help us spread the word by directing people to http://www.jeffersoncountygeorgiainfo.org/arts.html where these forms are available for download along with other helpful information. Please feel free to drop off your forms prior to the registration deadline either at The Fire House Gallery, The Chamber of Commerce, or The Jefferson County Information Center.

  • If your artwork is on display at either of the two locations downtown that are NOT the Fire House Gallery, artists must pick up their work on Sunday, April 15th between 4pm and 6pm. If you cannot pick up your work during this time, please make other arrangements for someone to assist you.

  • All work displayed at The Fire House Gallery must be picked up from the Fire House Gallery on Saturday, April 21, from 2:004:00pm. The Gallery will be preparing for their next show and will need the space immediately. Again, if you cannot accommodate this schedule, please make arrangements with another artist to assist you.

  • Remember - Pretty Petty will be performing for Music in the Park on Saturday, April 14th at Helen Clark Memorial Park from 4-6pm in Louisville, so please come out and support this other great Arts Guild sponsored event the night after our big opening reception!

  • And please remember to help us out by sending in your picture and bios to the News and Farmer no later than this Friday!

THANKS!!!!!

The next meeting, Monday, March 26

The next meeting on Monday, March 26, will be important to attend for several reasons. The program will be quite fun and interesting. Marianne Miller will show us how she makes her wonderful dried flower art and help us to make our own as well. Marianne's work ranges from portraits to birds, landscapes to nativities. Remember to bring tweezers, the smallest scissors you have and any dried flowers you can make before then. Microwaving them inside paper towels for 1-1/2 minutes per side on med. will help you get a stock to bring to with you.

Our Spring Exhibit is coming up in three weeks. April 13 is our opening night. Artwork is to be brought into the Firehouse Gallery on Saturday, April 7 and Monday, April 9. Please finalize your paperwork and get it turned in as noted on your information sheets. This helps a great deal in determining how many areas we need to have ready to exhibit. Candis Freeman will be calling some of you for help in getting this show together. It is our best showing of the year and we want it to be a great representation of our Guild. Please consider helping in some way if you can. If you need any paperwork or information on exhibiting in this show, please contact Candis Freeman @ 407-415-0490 or Donna Borders @ 478-625-3727.

David Irwin will be at this next meeting to take some photos of artists if they need or want one made. These photos will be going into the Special Edition of the News and Farmer that is all and only about our Spring Exhibit and the participating artists. It is really important to help make this special edition, special so that the newspaper will want to keep printing this every year for us. As artists, it will help you to get your name and information out to the public so that anyone interested in your work can contact you.

Our Spring Exhibit usually brings in many people from out of town. This year the Art Guild has decided to have Music in the Park on Saturday, April 14, so that an art weekend can be enjoyed by all. Please plan to come to Helen Clark Park, (east of IGA) in Louisville from 4-6 P.M. and bring your families and guests to hear Pretty Petty from Augusta. David Irwin is in charge of this venue if you want to help, have questions or suggestions.

It's important to support all the Art Guild events in some way so that we can keep them going and hopefully grow. Please plan to attend and participate if you can.

See you on Monday evening!

Art Guild and Photography Club meetings, February 27, 2012

The Arts Guild and Photography Club will hold their next meetings on Monday, February 27, 2012. The February meeting will be a "Let's Talk Art" meeting.  Bring in a piece of artwork that you want to show and ask questions and talk about your work.  The Photography group is going to do something similar.  This will be a great opportunity to review and get feedback on your art and ideas of some things you can do with it.  Let's learn from each other.
Also, we will have drinks for refreshments.  Feel free to bring snacks.
Looking forward to the meeting and lots of good creative talk about your work.

Magdalene House Meeting Re-cap

On Monday night, January 31, 2012, an exciting turn out of Arts Guild members met at the Magdalene House in Louisville. Over 30 people showed up for the collage workshop lead by Casey Sullivan. Everyone made colleges out magazine clippings, colorful collections of paper, lines from poetry excerpts, and drawing materials. We were happy to see some new faces in the crowd and hope that they will consider joining our club!

The Photography Club met after the Arts Guild Meeting, with a lighting demonstration presented by Richard Schickling. Studio lighting was explained as well as techniques for professionally photographing small objects.

See previous posts for information on our upcoming Spring exhibit, and please send us an e-mail if you have any questions, comments, or  interest in becoming part of the Photography Club.

Arts Guild Gallery at Twisted Sisters

of your work. Please contact Claire Little or Candis Freeman if you have any questions about this space or have some work you would like to bring. Send an email to
